    Community
    Madison High school is located in Marshall, NC in Madison County.  Madison County spans 452 square miles and located deep in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina. Bordering Tennessee, much of the county’s terrain is rugged and sparsely populated.  Within the county are 11 townships, 1 traditional high school, 1 early college high school, 1 middle school, and 3 elementary schools.  Mars Hill University is also located in Madison County and is the oldest college in Western North Carolina.

    School
    Madison High School is a four year comprehensive high school enrolling around 600 students in grades 9-12.  Madison High School was opened in the fall of 1974. It consolidated the high schools previously located at Hot Springs, Laurel, Mars Hill, Marshall, and Spring Creek. Madison High School has 55 teachers of whom 100% are highly qualified and 24% have advanced degrees.  Approximately 55% of the students at Madison H.S. receive free/reduced lunch

    A variety of AP, honors, and college courses are available to all students.  AP courses include: Human Geography, United States History, Earth and Environmental Science, and United States Government and Politics, as well as other AP options available through the North Carolina Virtual Public School.  Honors courses are available in English I, II, III, IV, Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Math I, Math II, Math III, Pre-Calculus, World History, American History I, American History II, Civics and Economics, Spanish III, Spanish IV, and a variety of CTE Courses.  All courses are taken in the block schedule format with 90 minutes per class period and 4 classes per semester. In addition, students are able to dually enroll through the Career and College Promise program in conjunction with local community colleges and universities, while receiving both high school and college credit for these courses. Madison High School has approximately 160 students enrolled in at least one college course. Madison High School also offers opportunities for MSIT certification and CTE Pathways certifications through AB Tech.

Grading and Ranking
  • Class rank is computed at the end of each semester and is based on the student's weighted GPA. Regular courses are worth 4 quality points, honors and dual-enrollment course are worth 4.5, and AP courses are worth 5.
