Parents Right to Know
At Madison County Schools, we believe that informed families are important partners in every child's education. As a school district that receives Title I funding, parents and guardians have the right to receive information about their child's education and the services provided by the school.
Teacher Qualifications
Parents have the right to request information about the professional qualifications of their child's classroom teacher. Upon written request, the school will provide information regarding:
-
Whether the teacher meets North Carolina's licensing and certification requirements for the grade level and subject taught.
-
Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or provisional license.
-
The teacher's college major and any graduate degrees or certifications earned.
-
Whether your child receives instructional support from a paraprofessional and, if so, the qualifications of that paraprofessional.
If your child is taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet North Carolina's certification or licensure requirements for the assigned grade level or subject, you will receive timely notification.
Student Assessments
Parents may request information about state and local assessments, including:
-
The purpose of each assessment.
-
The subject areas being assessed.
-
Assessment schedules and estimated testing time, when available.
-
How and when assessment results will be shared with families.
-
Any applicable state or local policies regarding student participation in required assessments.
English Learner Services
Parents of students identified as English Learners (EL) will receive information about:
-
Why their child was identified as an English Learner.
-
Their child's current English language proficiency level.
-
The instructional program and services available.
-
How the program supports both English language development and academic success.
-
Parents' rights regarding participation in English Learner programs.
Families of students identified during the school year will be notified within two weeks of placement in an English Learner program.
School Report Cards
Each year, Madison County Schools shares school and district report card information with families. These report cards provide information about school performance, student achievement, and other important measures of school success.
Questions or Requests
If you would like to request information described above or have questions about your rights as a parent, please contact your child's school principal. We are committed to providing information in a clear, understandable format and, whenever possible, in a language families can understand.
