Welcome to Hot Springs Elementary School!
Welcome and Thanks for Visiting our Website!
On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of HSES, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Hot Springs Elementary School! We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to many successful and engaging learning experiences. Our Vision at HSES is to work together to succeed using rigor, relevance and meaningful relationships. It is our Mission to Develop Leaders and Life-Long Learners! Our 2018-19 Motto is HUSKIES LEAD THE PACK! We welcome you to our family!
Hot Springs Elementary serves approximately 137 students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. I am honored and blessed to serve the students, staff and communities of Hot Springs, Spring Creek, and Laurel. Our school has been #1 out of 11 other small schools across the state based on EOG data. In 2017-18 we were among the TOP 25% of schools in North Carolina. Our data shows that our Kindergarterners enter school below state averages and leave as 5th graders at or above state averages! That is due to the hard work of our students, the expertise of our teaching staff and the dedication of the HSES school community!
I was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee and come from a long line of educators and strong southern women! I have lived in Madison County for 27 years. I moved to North Carolina in 1991 and attended Warren Wilson College for a year before starting my family. After my daughters were born, I went back to school and graduated from Mars Hill College (University) in 1999. I began teaching at Walnut Elementary the summer after the arson fire. It was a tragic yet blessed way to begin my teaching career. This experience instilled in me the importance of community and a love of small schools! In 2001, I transitioned with the staff of Walnut Elementary, Marshall Primary, and Marshall Elementary to create Brush Creek Elementary School. I had the honor of working at BCES from 2002-2015. I taught 2nd grade for 14 years and 1st grade for 2 years.
In 2013, I completed my Educational Specialist Degree in Administration and received my administrator's license. Although I love teaching young children, I was waiting for the perfect opportunity to leave the classroom. On October 15, 2015 I was named principal of Hot Springs Elementary School. Although this transition occurred after the start of school, the school community welcomed me and I am so thankful to be here! This year I begin my fourth year as Principal of HSES and my 20th year serving Madison County Schools! I have learned much over the past four years. I am so excited about our new year together and all the AMAZING things taking place at HSES!
Our campus is located within walking distance of the Appalachian Trail and French Broad River. Our majestic scenery is one of the best assets of our school! We have the most kind, caring, dedicated, professional staff members serving your children. Our focus is on educating the whole child. We place an important emphasis on good nutrition, sleep patterns and exercise to help our Huskies grow their brains and attend to the challenges they face. We know them, love them, and grow them!
This year our school has been designated a CEP School-this means ALL our students will receive FREE breakfast and lunch for an entire year! Students also have free nutritious snacks available anytime they are hungry. We are proud to feed our kids! We know they cannot learn unless they are full, rested and in a structured, safe environment.
We hope that you get involved in the activities of our school and we look forward to working with you! Please visit our Office if you would like to volunteer or join our PTO. We have a fantastic base of Community Volunteers that serve our Huskies in a variety of capacities. Our PTO is student and teacher driven and supports our school physically, emotionally AND financially! We are thankful for all our parents, guardians, families, and community members that are such an important part of our school!
Please feel free to email me (firstname.lastname@example.org), call, or stop by the school. The beginning of each month, I will send out Hot Springs Elementary - The Huskie's Howl newsletter with school highlights and information. All-calls are done updating school events.
